According to WHO’s report 2015-16, India has been suffering from scarcity of potable water for the last few decades. And the saddest part of it is, most people neglect the fact. As a result, about 27% of the total population does not get sufficient potable water. This is not the end, the most sticking fact is, if the situation does not change then there will be a drastic change in this figure and more than 40% of the total population of the country may not have potable water by 2030.
This manifests we are living in an edge. Unfortunately, most of us hardly bother about the fact and keep on wasting water in our day to day life. Just reducing water wastage in domestic level can solve half of the problem.
Conservation of water is not rocket science indeed. Some simple steps are enough to solve a big problem. Let’s have a look the points that will help you to be a part of the big campaign that has already raised its voice all over India.
If you become habituated with turning of your taps while brushing your teeth standing in front of your wash basin, believe me, you are saving 10% of water problem in this country.
Using a wash basin or placing a cistern displacement device in your toilet reduces the wastage of the volume water used in each hand wash and flush. And the best part is, with the prosperity of this country, sanitaryware in India has already flourished itself. And you can have these very easily.
A small drip from a worn faucet can waste at about 20 gallons of water per day. And a larger gallon is the cause of 100 gallons of water wastage. You can check the leak of the pipes by placing some drops of food colouring in the cistern and will see the colour in the part of the leakage. Seal it immediately.
One way to cut down the wastage of water is to stop the shower while you are soaping up. Then turn it on after rinsing. Taking a shorter shower saves about 45 gallons of water in every minute. And a four minutes shower uses approximately 20 to 40 gallons of water. Moreover, it should be better to use a container to hold water while you are bathing.
Water your garden with a watering can instead of hosepipe. Use of a watering can saves water 1000 litters of water every minute. Mulching and watering your plant regularly early in the morning and late evening help you reduce evaporation and also save water.
